The Evolution of Sports Analytics

For years, the sports data landscape was dominated by a few major players. Platforms like Action Network popularized the concept of tracking public positions, while tools like OddsJam introduced the masses to top-down steam chasing and arbitrage.

The Top-Down Limitation

This means they don't actually know why a team is valuable; they just compare lines across different market makers. If Pinnacle moves a line from -5 to -6, the software flags -5 as the number to track on DraftKings.

While theoretically sound, this approach is highly reactive. By the time you receive the alert, the sharpest money is already in, and the window to capitalize is closing by the second. Furthermore, it leaves you vulnerable to "fake steam" traps.
